At what age is the facelift recommended?
There is no recommended age for a lift. First of all, there is not only one facelift but many techniques that range from minimally invasive to the most aggressive or those that only affect one area of the face or multiple areas. Indicatively, we can say that today there is a trend towards a mini lift even at an early stage and then a repetition of the procedure in old age. In this way, the patient benefits from the effects of rejuvenation for longer throughout their life, guaranteeing a more natural and constant result. The drastic rejuvenation linked to a complete facelift at seventy years is not very relevant. It should be added that not all people age the same way because of differences in the shape of the face, in the characteristics of the skin or in their life habits. Finally, it should be noted that the social needs of patients are the most different: an actor certainly has different needs from those of an employee.
Is it true that a facelift twists your face?
The result of a facelift is programmed in the preoperative visits with the patient and, depending on the agreed preoperative strategy, it is possible to modify some morphological characteristics to the extent that this is required by the patient. In the vast majority of cases, a rejuvenation respectful of physiological morphology is opted for.
Is it a painful procedure?
It is a procedure ranging from slightly painful to non-painful with the exclusion of some specific procedures that are sometimes required which cause pain for a few days in some particular suture anchoring points. In any case, mild antalgic therapy is sufficient to counterbalance any possible inconvenience.
How long does it take to be able to go out in public?
Once again, it depends on the type of procedure performed. A micro lift allows an almost immediate return to social and work life, unlike a medium-range procedure that involves social discomfort for a couple of weeks at the end of which the residual signs are well hidden with a little make-up. Significant total facelifts sometimes cause long convalescences due to the swelling that lasts long after the operation.
What are the most frequent complications?
The most frequent complication is the haematoma that sometimes occurs a few hours after the operation and in this case it is almost always necessary to aspirate the blood through a syringe. Another unknown factor of the patient undergoing a lift is the quality of the scars, in fact the incisions involve areas that are very sensitive to numerous environmental factors to the point where it is not always possible to guarantee a good scar result. The most feared but fortunately extremely rare complication is a possible nerve injury.
