The look is perhaps the main tool of non-verbal expression. With our eyes, we can voluntarily express feelings and emotions, even if, sometimes, they become the involuntary mirror of conditions, which we would not like to reveal as tiredness, sadness or tension. When a look is weighed down by a drooping eyelid or large bags or dark circles or even a marked eye contour, it characterises a tired and neglected appearance.
Medicine and cosmetic surgery have studied numerous strategies that are more or less effective, to take care of this anatomical area. In aesthetic medicine the treatment par excellence for the management of wrinkles around the eyes is botulinum toxin, which helps to lighten the so-called crow’s feet. A few micro injections of the drug are performed, the mode of action of which involves the reduction of the contractile force of the orbicularis muscle, which surrounds the eye. The continuous movement of this generates wrinkles. Sometimes it can be useful to associate or replace the assisted laser resurfacing with botulinum toxin.
